Bag vs Bottle

With ever increasing sales of bulk bottled water now exceeding 14% of the total market, the environmental impact associated with the 15-litre polycarbonate bottle and delivery system is under scrutiny by national and regional public and private groups.

Is reusing bottles really the answer?

The 15-litre bottle has long touted the advantages of reuse sometimes as many as 400 trips for a single bottle. However, there are mounting questions about the total impact when all the related parts of the supply chain (bottle washers, rinse water disposal, chemical cleaning solutions, warehousing, and route truck emissions) are added together.

The average 15-litre bottle container can require up to 60 litres to wash and fill. Re-using containers requires cleaning chemicals, electric usage, double the warehouse and double handling, all adding significantly to the carbon footprint.

Single use means singularly less waste

The Spring in a Bag system addresses many of these environmental issues by using a flexible 10-litre double bagged single use package. There is no cleaning or return handling of the package. The efficiency of filling uses only 10 litres of water to produce 10 litres of finished product. The materials employed to make the inner bag are 100% recyclable polyethylene which can be recycled into many other products simply by disposing of it in your recycle bin. Spring in a Bag uses 100% BPA-Free plastic so there's no risk of contamination for you or your family.

We're also working on a degradable solution for our bags which will be the best outcome for everyone.
 
However, until then we encourage you to recycle your bags - which we're happy to pick up to make sure they are disposed of in the best way for recycling.
