Why is spring water better than other sorts of water?

Bottled spring water has been receiving a lot of press recently regarding its impact on the environment. When you are drinking spring water it is important that your containers are 100% recyclable and BPA-free.

Spring water itself is the most natural way to quench a thirst. Spring in a Bag water has a natural filtration process and the water is tested to ensure its quality.

We filter the water with a carbon filter to eliminate any possible organics and through both 5 micron and 1 micron filter. Then we inject ozone to make sure the bag is fully sterilised before use. Ozone after a few hours is converted into oxygen. Result: No residual chemicals like chlorine.

Lets compare spring water to other sources of water available.

Tap Water

This is generally rain water collected in major reservoirs and open to the elements. To ensure its quality and the removal of bacterias it is treated with chlorine, other chemicals and sometimes additives such as fluoride. Recently, some Australian residents have raised concerns over additives supplied to water and the lack of transparency of the quality and quantity of additive to our town water supplies.

Tap water is also supplied to homes along kilometres of piping. These pipes may be rusting, contain asbestos, lead or copper. These factors can impact on people's health and be the cause of tap water tasting different or having an unpleasant aroma.

Think about it next time you grab a drink from the tap.

Filtered Tap Water

This system uses the same water described above and traps or absorbs pollutants via a filter.  Generally, a plumber is required to fit the system and the filter needs to be changed every couple of weeks to maintain the quality of its extraction. With high upfront costs and ongoing filter replacement costs, filtered water can prove an expensive option. Another draw back is that if filters are not regularly cleaned they can actually have the reverse effect by harbouring bacteria and contaminating the water passing through it.

Also no one filter is able to remove all the additives and heavy metals along the way so multiple filters may be required to get the water to the same quality as Spring in a Bag spring water.

Rain Water

Many of us have rain water tanks now however local governments and providers do not recommend drinking tank water directly.

Purified Water

In Australia, you can only call water, spring water if it is in fact spring water.  Some bottlers sell purified water and label it as pure water, which is actually tap water, distilled with minerals added back in for taste.
